Demystifying Womenhood: Friedan, Sexton, Sherman.

I recently participated in a Gender Studies course for my Bachelor’s degree. In this course I was introduced to female writers that fit into the Glass Canvas. Writers such as Anne Sexton, Betty Friedan, Nella Larsen, Alice Walker, and Virginia Woolf to name a few.

These women are incredible and have pushed the boundaries of womenhood, gender, success and feminism. Throughtout history they have told their stories of real life to the rest of us. These stories are examples of how we all have different experiences and are all different but, when we show up in the world we can make a difference and create community and change.

I realized that if we look closely enough we will find women in every discipline and field who have inspired, supported, and changed landscapes.

Here is one of my PowerPoints I created in the course it is my interpretation and comparisons of the works. The connections between generations and these three women provide examples of the stories told and progress made.

Betty Friedan, Anne Sexton, and Cindy Sherman…
